How to Choose a Mattress

How to Choose a MattressHere is my comprehensive guide on how to choose a mattress.

When you find yourself tossing around on your bed, wishing that you can just turn off yourself like you turn off your computer, then using a new mattress can be one of the solutions. Using a nice and comfortable mattress will definitely help you to sleep well and rest better so that you can have the energy you need for the next day. It’s important to know how to choose the best mattress so that you can have a good night’s sleep every day.

Here are some factors to consider when choosing a new mattress:

Size of the mattress. The size of mattress will greatly depend on the person who is using it. If you are single, you might just need a Twin Mattress or a Full Size mattress. For a couple, you’ll want at least a Queen Size mattress to be comfy. If you want more of a personal space when sleeping, you might want a king size or California King Size mattress.

Another factor is the size of your room and the amount of space allocated for the bed. A King Size is 78” x 80” and can be too large for some room. Do you have enough spaces? If you are unsure, it’s wise to take a measure beforehand.

Firmness. Once you are certain of the size of mattress that you want, the next thing you should consider when choosing a mattress is the firmness of the bed.

How much supports do you needs? Do you need a mattress that provides back / joint support? Or do you simply want a mattress that is cozy and comfortable? Firmer beds will provide you with a lot more support, but they lack softness. And the opposite: Soft beds will give you much more comfort, but they don’t provide good support for your back.

The ideal bed would be the one that allow your body to maintain a natural position and flow but still give you comfort when you are sleeping. Like Goldilox, sometimes it’s best to pick the mattress that is not too firm and not too soft, but somewhere in the middle: just right.

Price. The next factor would be how much you are willing to pay for the new mattress. Price is one of the major determining factors for most of us. Obviously the more expensive the mattress, the more comfortable you’ll feel when sleeping. But it’s better to think about the price range you’re willing to pay before you go shopping so you won’t get confused on the wide range of selection and you can just focus on the best quality mattress that you can get on that price.

In today’s economy, we all want the best deals. The good news is there ARE a reasonably priced mattresses, you just need to know where to look. You can get the cheapest price by racing across the town from store to store trying to find the diamond in the rough. Or you can do a few mouse clicks and try to find the best price online.

Mattress prices depend on the size, comfort, support and durability of the mattress. It will typically cost you at least $800 for a good mattress and many people will spend $2,000 or more on a bed. If you’re trying to find a lower end price, you can find a decent one for about $300. You’ll find a healthy selection of mattresses or even a memory foam mattresses for that price range. You can find Queen or King Size mattresses at these prices, and there are California king mattresses for under $500.

Brand. Mattress can be used for a long time before it needs to be replaced again. Usually it’s worth it to go with a popular brand for more quality and durability. Other brand will claim them self as “just as good” as a major brand and sell with much cheaper price. But as with most things, you get what you pay for. If you can afford it, it’s always best to go for a major brands (sealy, serta, simmons, tempur-pedic, king koil, spring air, etc) rather than using the so-called “just as good” for this kind of long term use item. It’s better in the long run anyway.

Other factors you might want to consider when choosing a mattress:

Warranty. All branded mattress typically comes with warranty. Some goes as far as 10 year warranty. However, there may be terms and conditions applied to claim the warranty, such as the way you should treat your bed or the condition of the bed when returned. Try to find all of the warranty details before purchasing.

Finding the perfect mattress isn’t that hard. Just take your time. Don’t rush through the purchasing process. There are various types of mattresses (water, futon, innerspring, air, foam). Just decide on the type and size of a bed you want, and the price range that you can afford. Now you know on how to choose a mattress, go and find yourself the perfect mattress for your good night sleep.
